July 10th - Design Problem (Entry #13)

The Terry Fox Run is one of the most important and special events in Canada, happening annually. Terry Fox is an iconic Canadian hero and bring a student from a Canadian school, it is important for myself to fully support this marathon in every way possible. The marathon will be held for the second year in a row in Hong Kong, with an expected attendance of 1500 runners. In order to attract more runners, there must be appealing and tempting components such as having food provided at the site. Having a hot dog stand is the most typical food choices at big events such as marathons or carnivals. However, it is crucial for each business to have a completed business report to mostly aid next year's marathon,  to help with the planning and decision making for similar events in the years to come.

July 8th - Brainstorming methods for organising research (Entry #12)

The first step I wrote on my previous entry is to find a method to organise and gather all my research, I am going to brainstorm some possible methods and their pros and cons:

1. Microsoft Word

• Pros
• Everything can be found in one single document
• Color coding system
• Date and time automatically recorded
• Cons
• Only viewable on computer
• Not friendly to inserting images
• Forget to save, it's gone forever

2. Evernote + Blog

• Pros
• Syncs to many devices (eg. Phone)
• Can be retrieved if computer crashes (since it's online)
• Can be organised into folders, each note is separated by number labelling 
• Date and time automatically recorded
• Websites can be saved to notes through the Evernote clipper extension 
• Can be viewed by anyone with the link
• Cons
• Less functions compared to Microsoft Word (eg. fonts, colors etc)

Final choice: Evernote + Blog - Since it is a lot easier to organise, and also much more accessible through different devices. I will also be uploading each note to my Blogger (this website) so that my process can be seen on both platforms. 

July 5th - Next steps (Entry #11)

After having my new topic decided, I decided to set some goals for the summer to complete before school starts, this will help me keep on track and I am going to be strict on myself so that I can finish what I told myself I was going to do. Here is a list I wish to complete before school starts:

• Decide on a method of organising all research
• The design aspect of the project (designing the report) 
• Finish the basics of investigating to give myself a better idea of the project
• Design problem
• Design brief 
• The business aspect of the project
• Find possible suppliers for hotdogs
• Calculate final cost
• Determine price through research
• Estimate demand
• Brainstorm materials needed
• Research procedure for making mass amounts of hotdogs 
• Brainstorm pages for the business report
• Determine roles of volunteers on hotdog stand
• Create an action plan
